CONCEPT
The concept for my San Francisco Bay condo residence is Central Pacific Railroad. The Central Pacific Railroad is a section of track that later created the First Transcontinental Railroad, America’s greatest technological feat of the 19th century. Inspired by the tools and technology used to create such a marvel, my concept will be achieved through the elements of linear and repetitive patterns, paraphernalia, making the unreachable reachable, innovation and movement.

LOCATION
San Francisco, California

THEMES + EXPERIENCES
-Transforming and maximizing the small space such as rail car and making it adaptable for comfortable dwelling.
-Grasp the idea of all aboard and home, to stay home for the journey escaping the world outside passing by. Still
-The machine
“The house is a machine for living in.”
-Le Corbusier
-Linear paths and goals, other spaces used as train stops.
-Headlight lighting
-The owner as the conductor, the chief of the residence
LIVING
The living space is open and has many windows. I wanted to create an open environment where the kitchen, dining and living spaces can accommodate a small group of people without walls. The coffee table has a built in fireplace. The sofa is shaped like a railcar bench. the LC3 chair support structure represents the steam locomotive main crank rods. This is a space to either socialize, watch a movie or looking out over the San Francisco skyline.
DINING
Traditionally the dining car is located next to the living and the kitchen cars, its location is the same, and is the social place to be on the tracks and in my condo. The dining table is centered between two small windows and uses a low hutch to separate from the living.
ENTRY . OFFICE . BAR . UTILITIES
The space is multifunctional and versable in order to fit the small-allotted area. Many options are possible. One option for this setup is for guest or myself to enter a decluttered brick wall and Walnut sliders pointing toward the living and dining spaces. the options for the entry space are as follow; an office, bar, or utilities with walnut sliders that can hide the clutter in sections. The point is to have many uses for one space and hide them.
KITCHEN
Stainless steel modular and built in appliances represent the rail car kitchen along with the color Red backboard tiles from the original exterior steam engine that traveled on the First Transcontinental Railroad. Walnut is used for the cabinetry to correspond with the wooden sleepers (ties) supporting the tracks.
BEDROOM
The Bedroom has a large window that goes floor and up, a walnut bed frame and a walk-in closet and a plank wood floor throughout the entire space along with the others spaces in the condo. Some of the storage systems in the bedroom are shaped like luggage with built in drawers.
BATHROOM
One thing about planes trains and automobiles that many people do not enjoy are the restrooms (lavatories), they are two small. This bathroom maybe medium sized, but has many characteristics from the railroad system but are also accommodating, for example; the subway tile floor, the gravel shower floor and the built in walnut cabinetry and plenty of space between.
