Boston Public Market Symbol

"A graphic symbol is a pictorial device that stands for something. When used to represent and identify an organization ir company, it serves as a mnenomic that suggests the entitiy's purpose, products, or service. A symbol can be or be part of a "logo" or mark that brands the brand."
- Joseph Roberts
Assignment:

Design a symbol for your local town or city farmers' market.
The symbol would function as a "mark" (trademark) for the organization. It could be used online, on brochures, ads, stationary, video, signage, posters, etc.
The Boston Public Market was my chosen farmers' market. The preliminary sketches (see above) combine simplfied icons of produce with simpliflied icons of the Boston Public Market building and Faneuil Hall - an iconic building in Boston. The symbol of the Boston Public Market building was chosen and then recreated in Adobe Illustrator (see below). The design was then revised (see bottom) and placed into a 9"x16" background as requested for presentation. The symbol is optically centered, and a postage-sized reduction of the symbol with white logotype appears at the bottom.
