Orientation System KISD

This self-initiated project seeked to improve the orientation for Newbies and (international) guests at Köln International School of Design due to a lack of e.g. continuous inscriptions or missing overview maps. We focused on developing a concept, which combines function and experience in order to reflect the character of KISD or better of a design school. The system should also be durable but flexible at the same time.
First we got a general idea about the building and all points within that help for orientation. Then we analysed several existing orientations systems in facilities like art, culture, sport, administration and education. Through the research we collected everything to start the development of a new orientation system.

Inspired by iconic details of the building we chose the circle as the key-element for our orientation system. So it is used for the arrows as well as the arrangement of the informations. The fresh colour provides good visability but is not too loud in combination with the white walls. All informations are ordered in a hierarchy by importance (more important - bigger font size, less important - smaler font size) for visitors who are unfamiliar with the building.
