Shoot In The Style Of: Cristina Otero

Cristina Otero is a Spanish photographer well known for her self portraiture. I wanted to explore Cristina’s work because I found something captivating about her portraits that has inspired me to take self portraiture to another level.
By drawing a sketch into my photographs, I put together two of my creative abilities. Like the creatures she interacted with in her Instinct series, I interact with the overlayed sketches in my photographs.
I tend to use more abstract and surrealist themes in my artwork as I feel they can convey my thoughts better. That is why I combined my drawings into my photography. By layering a 2-dimensional sketch into a photograph with depth, it distorts reality and turns what would be a simple self portrait into something more abstract.

Overall, being able to interview Cristina Otero and explore her work has been a rewarding opportunity. I’ve gained a better appreciation for self portraiture, and developed my skills by mixing two creative mediums
