Bookworm Bookshelf
An exploration of where typography and functional woodworking meet.
As an avid reader, language has fascinated me since I was a little kid. In an effort to combine my love for books, typography, and wordplay, I chose to design a piece that functions vertically as a unique bookshelf, while horizontally reads "WORM." Wood was something I had never worked with, but experimenting with a new medium turned out to be extremely rewarding and resulted in a piece that I proudly consider one of my best.

The typography in this piece is MVB Fonts' Solano Gothic Retro that I manipulated to fit the form. The shelf is three pieces, the wood is pine and the piece spans roughly 6 feet of vertical space on the wall. It currently hangs in the Taubman Center at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.

Process sketches and photos of the build.
