Burning Bright - a fully algorithmic music video
In January 2016 Paulo Martz released his new EP, Codes. The music video was commissioned by the London based techno label Roeg Records. "Burning Bright" is a fully algorithmic animation performed live and captured on the go with no cuts, running in openFrameworks based on C++ programming language. No third party moving images or effects software were used. The audio reactive animation uses OSC messages coming straight from Ableton Live and all the instruments' frequencies are filtered on the track timeline. Camera movements and positioning in space are dynamically controlled via keyboard messages coming from the timeline. A touchOSC series of faders were also created to interact with the animation and control the performance using an iPhone. The use of an accelerometer message enables bodily control of the animation. If the phone is put in your pocket, the animation will react to the intensity of the way you dance creating an extra channel of interaction where the user is an active part of the intensity of their own perceptual experience.
