To go cruising again with my wife to the Pacific  - once the kids grow up. Right now on sabbatical from sailing.


Have sailing instruction qualifications and experience from the keelboat level to the Intermediate Coastal Cruising level of the American Sailing Association standards and the Basic Coastal Cruising level of the Canadian Yachting Association. Also completed more than 50 deliveries in the Eastern Caribbean for several charter companies and taught in the ‘Cruise and Learn’ format. Day Charter experience includes running ‘Gabrielle’, a Morgan 46, in St. Maarten for over a year. Am familiar with all facets of general boat and engine troubleshooting and repair and have owned three sailboats over 36 feet in the past ten years including a Morgan Heritage 38, a steel Joshua (of Bernard Moitessier fame) at 37 feet, and an Endurance 37. Over 20,000 offshore miles logged.

On top of working as a professional yachtsman, I also have six years experience in the marine industry as a marketing director for the two largest marine companies in the Caribbean, Budget Marine and Island Water World as well as working as an editor in the local media (I am a journalist by trade).
Duties included a complete re-branding of both companies giving them a new look, designing all the ads and fighting for premium placement, completing five 200-plus page catalogues, and creating successful marketing strategies such as a Megayacht Program and a Cruiser Discount Club/Card for Island Water World. Also designed and marketed both websites.

• Spearheaded re-branding of company - a complete overhaul of Island Water World’s image and presentation to the public. Designed and led catalogue effort with over 20,000 products in 200 pages in print – and online in PDF at Implemented new marketing strategies focusing on the bigger boat market with a Megayacht Program and the strengthening of companies’ relationship with cruising yachtsmen in the form of a Cruising Club Discount Card Program.

• Delivery skipper for maintenance base in St. Maarten for Tortola-based Tradewind Yachts.
1998 – 1999 Marketing Manager Budget Marine
St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
• Upgraded and added to 300 page marine parts catalogue and designed website for leading chandlery in Caribbean. Also created all signage and handled basic merchandising duties for multiple stores in the Caribbean.

• Private delivery of Endeavor 43 in Caribbean.

• Ran Morgan 46 on busy daily snorkeling and lunch trips around the island. Duties included maintenance, hot lunch preparation and guided snorkeling tours. Included six-month refit in Trinidad.
