Recovered Property

Armed with LAPD’s geo-crime data as well as census based poverty levels, Recovered Property maps two significant data sets into a pleasurable and provocative golfing experience. This project examines localized property crime in city of Los Angeles through projection of crime rates in three dimensions.

Golfers will have to navigate the peaks and valleys of LA’s most poverty-stricken neighborhoods while avoiding the rough representing the areas of high property crime.    Data from each of LA County’s 272 neighborhoods is presented through a 10 mile rectangular swath stretching from Santa Monica through downtown Los Angeles.  Imagined as a haptic infographic with a turf sewn from $20,000 of shredded out-of-circulation U.S. currency, Recovered Property objectively presents the perhaps discounted conditions of Los Angeles’ neighborhoods.
