The eHat system was conceived to allow less experienced trades people the opportunity to train on the job without the need for direct supervision. By utilising eHat’s video and voice connectivity, trades people can communicate with supervisors remotely in real time, letting them see and hear what they are experiencing without actually being there.

Katapult was engaged to design and develop an appearance model for the eHat to garner investor interest at trade fairs.
A major design consideration was that the eHat is both a safety product and communications device. It had to meet all the typical design requirements of an industrial hard hat, as well as include:
- HD camera to film the work area
- High brightness LED lights for work area illumination
- Communication indicator LED lights in the operator’s peripheral vision
- Built in headset (earphones and microphone)

Katapult set out to design the eHat with an iconic, contemporary aesthetic, whilst maintaining the appearance of a modern, ruggedised safety product.

Conceptual designs were prepared in a sketch presentation to establish the basis for the preferred design concept. A preliminary engineering review was undertaken to consider risk areas for Standards compliance. Care was taken to ensure the concepts were manufacturable and fit for purpose – ruggedised, lightweight & well balanced, distinctive.

The result is a product that is eye catching, user friendly and practical.
