Jiménez Heredia Identity

Jorge Enrique Jimenez Martinez ( Heredia , Costa Rica, October 4, 1954 ) is a sculptor and architect of Costa Rican origin, better known as Jorge Deredia. Having started his career in his native Deredia moved to Italy in 1976, he has developed country where much of his work received international acclaim and unique privileges, being perhaps the most important being the first Latin American sculptor in a work place in the Basilica of San Pedro, located in the Vatican, and be the first contemporary artist to exhibit their works in the Roman Forum, among other places in the Italian capital.

THE GENESIS

The sculptures that are named Geneses are made up of four elements that didactically present the transformation of matter: an elementary shape, such as a sphere, slowly grows in height and size and, like cinematic film, reveals the process of life and creation to us.  The artist sums up Genesis with a metaphor: imagine sowing a seed in the ground.  With the passing of the days, the seed starts to take shape, it opens, stretches, grows and gives life to a plant which, in turn, will grow, stretch out and open. From that plant, other plants will be born, and from those, others again.” That seed can be compared metaphorically to the sphere that the artist transforms.
