Few sights in nature rival the pure majesty of a California redwood, the world’s tallest species of tree. Individuals interested in seeing a full-grown Sequoia sempervirens must plan a trip to the West Coast. Once in California, there are dozens and dozens of locations to visit. Redwoods can be found as far north as Humboldt County, although there are a few locations closer to the Oregon border, including the Jedediah Smith Redwoods and the Del Norte Coast Redwoods. In Humboldt County, visitors may wish to see Grizzly Creek Redwoods or Richardson Grove.

Proceeding further south to California’s north-central coast, popular redwood destinations range from Russian Gulch near Mendocino to Boonville’s Hendy Woods. Moving down the coast, the Santa Rosa region offers several optimal redwood sites. A comparable number of parks and redwood forests can be found around California’s central coast and the San Francisco Bay Area, such as Big Sur and the Forest of Nisene Marks, respectively. Individuals may wish to visit www.parks.ca.gov in order to plan a trip to see the California redwoods.
