Line/Value Comparison ART 1020

For the Line/Value comparison project we had to draw the same image only useing line and shadeing with the entire value scale. For the assigment i used a the character Frank the Rabbit from the Donnie Darko movie. I used scratchboard and pencil with a white contè stick.

Materials Used
-Paper
-Skratchboard
-Pencil
-Contè stick
-Project Board
-Pastel paper
-Scratching tool

Step One - Thumbnails
I made thumbnails with the different ideas i could use for my project
Step Two - Practing
Next i made small quick drawings trying to get the shape of the head and figure out where is best to shade.
This was my first time useing a contè stick or scratchboard

Step Three - Final
For the finished peices i put them on a board with a cover on it.
The one on the left is scatchboard and on the right is pencil with a white contè stick.
For my line drawing i chose to use scratcboard. i had never used scratchboard before this but i liked the technique. I really enjoyed working with scratchboard and i found it very succesful way to explore the properties of line.

For my value drawing i decided to use penicl with a white contè stick for extra light. i chose to do pencil because im familiar with the value scale in pencil but i had never used a contè stick before. White contè is a great way to add that extra light into the peice and i found it successful in exploring the properties of value.
