DESIGNING A TYPEFACE
THE BRIEF
The brief was to create our own typeface based on one of 12 phrases given to us.
THE SOLUTION
I chose the phrase 'Negative Invasion', and after looking into the obvious (negative space, light, shadow, reflections etc) I decided to take a completely different direction. I began looking into infections and diseases, as I thought these were a perfect representation of a 'Negative Invasion'. I found that the cells that carry these certain diseases and such were very interesting and strangely enough, quite beautiful. My final typeface design is based on an E-coli cell, with simplified shapes to make the type more legible. I transformed the usual oval-shaped cell into a more geometric, pointed shape to emphasize it's 'invasive' nature.
