“An Introduction to the Moon” is the result of my final semester studying graphic design at UNITEC, New Zealand. It is a book all about the moon, a strange, romantic and alien world and cosmic neighbour to our planet earth. Inspired by astronomy and natural history books from the early 20th century, the aim of the project is to utilise a traditional style of book design to create a sense of wonder and a feeling of nostalgia in readers.
The book covers a wide range of information about the moon, from the basic mechanics of tides and eclipses through to a brief history of manned exploration and predictions about other moons beyond our own.
As well as the graphic design, I was also tasked with researching and writing the content which was very interesting, and something that I discovered I was actually very interested in. The images are all sourced from NASA’s royalty free image library and the book was printed and bound locally in Auckland, New Zealand.
