CONCEPT
The project’s concept aims to create a design that attracts, impacts and provokes Varna’s citizens.
The New Regional Library provides free flow on street level and an extended plaza, where people, knowledge and leisure meet. The urban context, restrictions and sun analyses help to design a compact but impacting shape.
The library program is organized on a spectrum, starting with more engaging public programs on the pavilion like ground floors, and spiraling up to focused study areas on the upper floors, which are wrapped in a perforated sheet metal coat and offers fragmented reflections of the sky and surroundings.
In order to keep the site green an additional glass façade is proposed on the street level. A row of trees is set behind it. Multiple reflections will appear! This effect together with the trees inside the main atrium space will eliminate the boundary between city and nature.
The building’s shape is literally pointing the sea and provides to its visitiors a 360˚ panoramic view.
