When you think of the holidays, what comes to mind? Festive cheer, cold-weather, ugly sweaters, holiday parties, seeing your relatives and watching A Christmas Story for the umpteenth time? And what's the one piece missing from all of these? No, it's not Santa Claus–it's booze!
Jerry James Stone, Alex Feinberg, and myself took on the ambitious task of creating a handy companion to help Jerry's passionate fan base at Jerry James Stone and well, really any human, to keep the holidays socially lubricated and boozy. The Title? Holidazed: A Cocktail Cookbook for Getting Lit on Christmas.
We decided early-on to take the self-publishing route and leverage Kickstarter to fund the initial printing costs.
On August 7, we launched the Kickstarter campaign. Three days later, Holidazed was fully funded!
Sprinting (as fast as three out of shape guys could), we promised ourselves and our Kickstarter backers that the book would be finished and shipped to them by Christmas, giving us 4 months to develop and wrap the recipes, design the book, print it, and ship it to backers. Ambitious, considering that standard development times in the publishing industry are six months.
109 pages and three very busy months later, on November 3, we wrapped the book design and layout and released it to the printer, biting our nails and thoroughly sampling our drink recipes–until the first editions arrived at our doorstep in the middle of December!
Holidazed was designed in casebound, softbound, and responsive full-color custom eBook (sold through Amazon's Kindle Store) formats. Covers of both case- and softbound versions use soft-touch anti-scratch laminate, just in case you happen to spill Mommy's Little Peacemaker on it at the family gathering.
