Visual Identity for the new NID

The objective of the project was to ideate a visual identity for NID Jorhat, Assam, one of the four new NIDs.

Research was done on various aspects concerned with the chosen topic of which some were studied very extensively in order to understand the values, philosophies, structure and culture of the institute.

Discussions were done with Shri. M.P.Ranjan and Shri. Pradyumna Vyas (Director, NID). Various sources from internet and the NID archive were examined. Conclusions were made and key points were drawn from the research and the main framework was built which served as the foundation for the conceptualization.
Doodles were made with respect to the built in framework. Shortlisted ideas were further worked on, exploring their forms, concepts and other aspects required for a logo.
The best concept was chosen from among the shortlisted ones and further development and refinement was done. The final logo is a form that is made fundamentally with the N, I & D letter forms which also symbolizes the interdisciplinary nature of the institute and also it depicts the form of the head of 'Horai', an iconic vessel of the assamese culture which holds an important part in the concept as the institute is being set up in Assam.
