TRUTH IS STRANGER AND SUSPICIOUSLY ENTERTAINING / Approach to IDs
These live-action approaches take a single mystery with a number of dramatic elements and breaks them into single narrative IDs that can exist without a definitive chronology.
Taken singularly, they're tense scenarios with a twist ending, but combined, they become a story of lust, greed, murder, compromise, and glimpses into dark truths hiding behind seemingly normal facades.
Each is told through a POV camera, putting the viewers in the role of victim/perpetrator in each scenario.
[1] "STOP LIGHT" ID
We’re sitting in an idling car, waiting at a stop light on an empty country road. We’re gripping the wheel tightly and staring intently at the red light. It switches to green. But we just stay where we are, gripping the wheel. The engine hums softly as the light switches to yellow, then red. We just sit, gripping the wheel. Suddenly a crowbar comes smashing in through the driver’s side window, sending us ducking towards the passenger seat.
[2] "BURN" ID
We’re standing at the edge of large, peaceful lake, staring out over the glassy water. We pull a book of matches out of our pocket and light one, just staring at the small flame and letting it burn out. We light another, and this time turn to our left where we’ve set a large pile of money and doused it with gasoline. We toss the match onto the pile.
[3] "DISGUISE" ID
A dirty, dimly lit gas station bathroom—fluorescents hang from the ceiling, doors hang from the stalls, everything is in a state of deterioration. A burly, surly-looking guy in sunglasses that hide a large scar walks in and right up to the camera, looking into it as a mirror. He turns on the tap on the sink below, out of frame, and dips down to wash his face. When he comes back up, he’s a she—a particularly beautiful she, who’s removed the elaborate disguise, except for the large scar, which she now carefully peels off before walking out.
