Lately I've been getting really into gritty textures and colors, so this was primarily an exploration of the concept. 
The art style I typically work in is far more stylized, so this was also an experiment in realism. 
Overall, it was a completely new and refreshing experience, and one I would definitely like to play with again. 


The subject I went with is a character from "Albatross"--a sort of alternate-Earth fantasy story of mine that's still in the works. 

She's a professional soldier in Medieval-Renaissance era Europe: a "Man-at-arms." While not formally a knight with a title of nobility, she enjoys much of the same benefits and privileges of one. She prefers to fight with polearms, but always has her sword and buckler to fall back on.
(All equipment is based entirely on surviving historical artifacts from the same time period, because I'm a history nerd like that.)
