This magazine was conceptualised in pairs - myself and another student - and then after the conceptualisation stage and major design decisions, each of us had to go off and put together our own monthly issues of the same magazine. Oddball is a magazine that fills a gap in the South African market for teenage girls looking for alternative magazine choices to publications like Seventeen or Cosmo. Most teenage girl magazines are about celebs, fashion, boys and makeup, and place a ridiculous emphasis on physical appearance. Oddball speaks to girls who want more substantial matter from their magazine-reading experience and are able to identify themselves in the pages of the magazine - something my partner and I realised we never fully experienced when reading magazines in our teens.
