Poster designed for Creative Mornings, for the Auckland chapters 4th Birthday. It's a quote from a previous speaker — Jamie McLellan, who is a New Zealand based industrial designer.
Designing for another designer is a daunting task and the fear of being rejected also the fear of the blank page will get to you. Beginning this project, I re-watched Jamie's presentation — which I attended — took notes from his references then continued to research his work, and his influences.
A few points I took away from his presentation were;
the use of '6' — everything in multiples of 6 is something Jamie likes to stick to.
An affinity for the ocean, and being near water.
And the minimal maximal design he was referencing.
One thing I took note of was the amount of tittles to be in multiples of 6, balanced the quotes tittles with additional ones for dividers. The quote also is on 6 lines.
I came across Dalton Maag's font Objektiv which is a geometric sans, that came in 3 different alternatives and two weights. Which also played into the 6 theme. The name objektiv seemed to fit too.
One part of the brief was to include the Creative Mornings colour and the speech bubble icon that is part of their logo, which for me created the maximal element as well as the frame of reference for this quote.
