Iris oratoria (Linnaeus, 1758)
Female ootheca oviposition.
From the Ancient Greek word μάντις (mantis) that litterally means "prophet" they are a charismatic group of predatory insects, distributed in 15 families and comprising more than 2,400 described species, mantids are historically linked to an ecological research that is now very limited in active systematics, therefore threatened by a decline in active entomologists / taxonomists.
