The last time an invading force was welcomed into a bastion of safety, a great wooden horse of cunning design surrounded the invaders. Look how far we’ve progressed. Today, there’s no need for invaders to go to all that carpentry. The leaders of the Western world have gladly flung open their gates to the marauding horde and welcomed them in. Germany, Great Britain, France and the United States are allowing people who are not only opposed to Western values, but are bent on wiping those values off of the face of the Earth. David Cameron has defended the government's decision to accept 20,000 Syrian refugees by 2020, saying they will get a "warm welcome.” French President Francois Hollande said France would accept 24,000 Syrians over the next two years, while New Zealand Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse said his country would accept 750 Syrian refugees over the next three years. It is said 1.5 million refugees are likely to have arrived in Angela Merkel’s Germany in 2015 alone. Despite the Paris attacks, a top White House adviser said Sunday that President Obama still plans to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees even though it’s all but impossible to stop terrorists from hiding among the migrants. And all the while democrat presidential nominees float plans to further disarm American citizens, leaving them sitting ducks. It shouldn’t be too hard to posit what’s going on here. But will anyone actually do anything? I mean beyond reposting a peace sign of the Eiffel Tower, or coloring their Facebook portrait to resemble The Tricolore. Symbolic acts shouldn’t stand in for substantial acts. It’s like the tale of the boiled frog. The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death. The story is often used as a metaphor for the inability or unwillingness of people to react to threats that occur gradually. Say, is it getting warm in here? Our enemies use social media to distribute snuff videos as a means of recruitment. We use it to confirm to them how passive and enervated we are: What was it the last time blood ran in the streets of Paris? Oh, yeah, a pencil - for all those dead cartoonists. But, given that blood in the streets of Paris looks like becoming a regular event, it helps to have something of general application. What about, ooh, a tricolor with a blue tear at the end? No, better yet: a peace symbol with a croissant in the middle. No, wait...What's that? All you are saying is give peace a chance? But what, in fact, are the chances of peace for Paris and France? What are the odds? Oh, sorry. All they were saying is give peace a chance. And, having said it, they've gone back to sleep until the next atrocity requires another stupid hashtag or useless avatar. I’ve opted to use this space to deliver a sincere warning. There are people here now who want to wipe out Western civilization. It’s time we got serious. About real threats. Or start digging our graves and those of our children. #wakeup Read Less
