PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Interior design and visual identity for Filter, a small café located in the historical old town of Pécs.

The oldest university town in Hungary, Pécs has been home to a vibrant social scene for centuries. Today, in the new wave of gastronomy and coffee culture sweeping across Hungary, and new cafés and restaurants opening up all over its major cities, our challenge was to carve out a niche within this new wave, yet outside its mainstream.

We were commissioned to rethink a tiny 30 sqm space which had served as the office of the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra for decades, and turn into an artisan café. We worked closely together from the beginning, and settled on a design that was both minimalistic and chic. The fact that we come from different backgrounds – Zita being an architect and Aliz a type designer – made the project very exciting and fun. It allowed us to experiment and to see how certain architectural and typographical solutions work together within the given space.

To make Filter even more remarkable and unique, we designed Filter Sans – its very own typeface –, which we used in the logo, as well as for signage and elements of the menu.
