Outdoor Life Magazine provides the following tips for deer hunters.

Keep your scent above the ridge line. Bucks tend to travel across the lee slope of a ridge. To avoid scaring away deer, sit high on a slope so your scent carries over trees.

Mimic a squirrel. Conceal movements by imitating squirrel sounds. This lessens the likelihood a deer will notice you are close.

Hunt in dense bedding. At midday, you should look for deer in secluded orchards next to dense bedding areas. Scout locations that offer hidden food and water sources.

Locate mast. Forest trees bearing nuts draw deer. These nuts attract does and bucks before they head toward their main feeding area after dark. Look for mast and nuts that fall 50 to 100 yards off a field or cutover. White oak trees are ideal.
