DementiaHack 2015 submission - MindAbility

Category Challenge Set #3: Institutional Caregiver/Clinician

This is a hackathon project submission at DementiaHack 2015 organized by Facebook.

This is considered a breakthrough when it comes to bridging the gap between doctors and dementia patients. As of 2015, it is common among dementia patients, who are 4 to 5 times more likely to develop delirium and less likely to have it detected. This causes their functioning to rapidly decline, usually until something bad happens, at which point it’s often too late to reverse the effects. Quite often the patient never returns to their pre-illness level of functioning.

MindAbility is the digital solution designed for doctors and caregivers to track progression of dementia patients through data collection via tablets.

The solution involves challenge sets that measure various cognitive dimensions such as memory, attention, and visual/spacial. These data are gathered via the tablet application.

The data are collected in real time via the app, which then syncs on to the cloud database, in order for tracking and data visualization on the administrative side. Doctors can view their patients' performance on the challenge sets, receive notifications on any abnormal decline, and thus able to predict problems before they occur.
