Glassworks
A workshop to understand the processes of glass molding and blowing. Skilled artisans were called from the city of Firozabad, which has the largest glass industry in India. In order to have a language and connect with the products, I chose Physalis alkekengi, a popular ornamental plant as inspiration. It is also known as the Chinese lantern.

Further, concepts were developed that could be produced by the artisans within the workshop set-up. The products were completed with lighting fixtures and other accessories in wood and metal.

Limpid Pieces  I  Hanging installation
Abstract representation of the form inspiration, derived by dividing it into parts which led to some interesting forms.
A play of light and shadows can be seen when surrounding light is shed on the clear, hollow pieces.

Physalis Radiance  I  Lamp
An iconic representation of the form inspiration. The surface texture creates beautiful dramatic shadows when the lamp is lit.

Tranquil Gleam  I  Table lighting
The three legs were blown and joint to a thick plate-like molded glass. Filling the three legs with grass and water and fixing a light in the wooden base, completes the product.
