Carrie is a renowned horror story book by Stephen King "a story of misfit high-school girl, Carrie White, who gradually discovers that she has telekinetic powers. Repressed by a domineering, ultra-religious mother and tormented by her peers at school, her efforts to fit in lead to a dramatic confrontation during the senior prom.", (stephenking.com)
The concept of this jacket is essentially about telekinetic, blood, anger, and agony.
I started out this project with a photoshoot one day after the Halloween. Creepy as it is! Took many photos but I post one here just to give an idea on how they look.
Then, I went ahead and sketched out few thumbnails and discussed with my mentor, Steve Klippenstein. He is one of the cognoscenti who has been in the Entertainment Design business for more than 30 years, check him out on his personal site at klippart.com or https://www.behance.net/klippart for great inspirational pieces.
He told me, it might be okay to display these kind of bloody scene as a movie poster, however, with book jacket I might want to reconsider doing something more sophisticated with a cleaner look.
Went back to my drawing board, created a custom title (Carrie), and the final version of the jacket is as follows;
To sum up, I would say it has modern looking with those Marvel comic vibe that gives a rebranding on the classic book which would be more appealing to millenial generation.
