Architectural Projections Coursework

Architectural Projections explored the ways in which objects may be measured, translated, and described within digital drawings and documents. The process began with a still life drawing of a chosen object to create a start for the basis of translation.

This study focused on the translation between physical and digital in order to analyze the information being lost and gained between each conversational step. The final presentation focused on the language of each entity and how each all derive from a common parent language.

Foam sculpture #2 of Still Life
Oblique axonometric drawing analysing cuts made to sculpt Garlic based off of Still Life #1 and #2.
Garlic foam sculpture, third attempt, with projected marks of Still Life #1 onto 3D form.
Garlic foam sculpture, third attempt, with projected marks of Still Life #2 onto 3D form.
Digital model of Foam Model #2
Perspective of Still Life #1
Used Rhino to translate the 3rd foam model into a digital model of the garlic paying mind to the projected still life marks for measurement reference.

Digital model of Foam Model #2
Perspective of Still Life #2
Used Rhino to translate the 3rd foam model into a digital model of the garlic paying mind to the projected still life marks for measurement reference.
Digital model #1 projected onto Still Life #1.
Digital Model #2 projected onto Still Life #2.
Combination of Digital Model #1 and Digital Model #2 interacting in relation to the real time Garlic through reference of Still Life #1 and Still Life #2. The dominant rail is an anlysis of the space created between the interaction of each digital model.
Extraction of the space formed between the two models.
Space created between the two digital models as a rail.
Inflated rail in order to translated the digital back into the physical.
Physical model of "rail" or space created between the two digital models.
In order to imporve accuracy, Model #2 of the 'rail' focused on deflation and accuracy in order to capture the measurement between the two digital models more correctly in a physical way.
Analysis of the tanslation between each step in physical form. The model breaks into section in order to further understand pieces of whole as measured by contours.
Final Presentation Installation.
