The 3D model was made for the documental movie "Andin. Armenian Journey Chronicles" directed by Ruben Giney, in 2013-2014.
Dvin was a large commercial city and the capital of early medieval Armenia. Documentary film is about a Relationship of Armenia and China ("Andin. Armenian Journey Chronicles"), and Dvin connected Europe and Asia and was important for its geographical and strategic location along the Silk Road during 3rd-5th centuries.
The biggest challenge in making the 3D model was availability of very few information about the city in those centuries, and the information was mainly written in the texts. In order to have a successful 3D model, I researched the available books and compiled the information from the text to the image. Besides, only several key information was clearly available – city’s outside wall, population (apx. 150.000 people) and some key buildings, such as Citadel, Market, Church, etc.
Therefore, I had to logically build the rest of the city, by consulting with professors from Archeological Institute of Armenia.
