Lilo & Stitch (2002) 3D Kitchen

But What's It Like In 3D Though?

Just for fun, I wanted to translate a Disney Animated movie into a 3D environment and chose Lilo & Stitch (2002).

I had a great time with the process - all I did was watch the animation, screen capture the kitchen scene as much as possible, and stitch the environment using Photoshop for it to make sense. I also researched the concept art for this movie and collected photo references as well.

The meticulous part of the work is determining the spatial dimensions of the room so that it makes sense in 3D. As you know, sometimes you can cheat a lot in 2D in terms of how near or far things are in perspective.

The rest was pretty straightforward - I googled the closest items that reflect the props on the movie and modelled a lot of them in Autodesk Maya! This process probably took a good week and a half to two weeks if I worked on it 8 hours a day, including figuring out the physics of the hanging fruit basket and the fabric.

I know I modeled this environment in 2015, so let me get back to you with more 3D modeling related work - I want to utilize my 3D skills in the graphic design realm. Stay tuned!
