DESCRIPTION:
Approach was a two-day intensive design and prototypingworkshop held at Yale University the weekend of March 19-20, 2009.
Digital processes and digital fabrication technology areplaying an increasingly important role in the way in which architecture isproduced today. The complexity of data necessary for the materialization ofarchitecture suggests a strategy of integrating design, analysis, manufacturinglogic, and assembly processes into a streamlined and informed workflow. Thisworkshop introduced participants to beginner to intermediate parametricmodeling within Grasshopper for Rhinoceros in close coordination with a 7-Axis KukaArticulated Arm Robot. The Kuka represents the most contemporary fabricationtechnology currently available, situating this workshop at the forefront offabrication processes within architecture. Emphasis will be placed on anintegrated workflow model which will incorporate design criteria, analysis, andfabrication constraints as generative devices for the creation of architecturalprototypes.
This workshop was the result of a collaboration between StudioMode & McNeel & Associates.
As part of a larger online infrastructure, modeLab, the workshop provided participantswith continued support and knowledge to draw upon for future learning. Description...
