This purpose of this project was to create something which could improve the lives of homeless people. After conducting detailed research it was clear to me that the two biggest problems homeless people faced were lack of shelter and lack of security & privacy. I designed PODULAR to solve these issues.
Early ideation sketches of PODULAR showing the use of stacking pods
The goal was to create a personal, secure, private space for the user. These pods are temporary homes which can be flat packed and sent to any city in the world and placed in any of the many vacant spaces and buildings, indoor and outdoor.
Obviously space is the main constraint so the pods were designed to maximise the available space while giving adequate room to the user.
Each pod can provide a homeless person a place inside a hostel where they can feel safe and secure with any belongings they may have, without the risk of theft or assault by others.
The modular nature of the product means it can be used in any size room and opens the possibility of additional pods which may contain showers or bathrooms.
