Singaporean Thanksgiving

This project is about America-Singapore collaborative design, and we came up with this title: Singaporean Thanksgiving.

Every countries in the world has their own special big holiday, when the government gives the citizens a free day to celebrate it. In the United States, Thanksgiving is a national holiday that is celebrated primarily. It is about giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preciding year. It has its history in religious and cultural traditions thus has been around for long.

In Singapore, the average of public holiday in each year is about nine to eleven days and most of them are religious holiday. The country is also known for importing foods from other neighbour countries, therefore thanksgiving is somehow important in order to give thanks for it, yet Singaporeans don't really celebrate it.

Our idea is to introduce the American culture of celebrating thanksgiving to the people of Singapore, poured in a book produced by the American restaurant Kenny Roger's. In this book, there will be templates for a DIY pop-up Thanksgiving greeting cards, featuring illustrations of Singapore-style Thanksgiving dishes such as Hainan Turkey, Mashed Potato Pie Tee, etc. so that audience can feel the Thanksgiving vibe without feeling too 'foreign'.
