This project I made during the Skillshare Challenge taught by Mary Kate McDevitt in July 2015. I like her work very much, so I wanted to learn some new lettering techniques from her.
We were asked to make a lettering using a quote for our projects. I love travelling and I like to discover new places in the world and sometimes to get lost somewhere. So my phrase was chosen very quickly. It was: “Let’s find a place to get lost”.
Then I created a word list for my phrase and got some inspiration on Pinterest.
Then the next step - making some lettering sketches for one of the words of the phrase and a couple of thumbnails for the entire illustration. The sketches were very sketchy:) but for me is this the best way to make the right composition.
It took a little time and some struggles but I created a picture I was satisfied about.
Inking and scanning.
The coloring was the hardest part of the project. I didn't realize how many colors I had to use. So it was quite difficult to combine the colors with each other and at the same time I had to make the words as much as readable.
Finally I've made three illustrations with different color combination.
The last step of the project was texturing. And it was a lot of fun to play with the textures! I'd never done it this way before.
So I hope you enjoyed my hand-lettering process. Thanks for scrolling!:)
