Block Light

The Block Light was designed to be an easy way to express, communicate, and have fun, all while interacting with letter forms and light. Individual tiles can be positioned within the lamp to write messages and communicate with others. The unused library of letters remain housed in the base of the light.
Started as a rough prototype in 2012, the block light has been developed from a quick mock–up to a fully developed product. The final prototype was built of clear pine. Acrylic panels were used for the front and back walls. LED strip lighting was used to back light the letters while using minimal space. The letter blocks were cut using a laser cutter with vinyl stickers placed for lettering. These materials, while vastly different from one another, all come together to interact and contrast nicely with one another.
