‘Bethlehem Moon’ is a type inspired by Palestinian Embroidery.
The framework for the typography comes from the elements found in the Palestinian embroidery motif called ‘Bethlehem Moon’. Also known as the ‘Canaanite eight-point star’, its roots can be traced back to the ancient Canaanites who once dwelled in Palestine. With the herringbone framework derived from the motif, I designed a frameless ‘embroidered’ type. ‘Bethlehem Moon’ represents a contemporary type design inspired by the complex cultural history of Palestine.
