THRONG DEMON
The THRONG demon illustration was created for a vinyl wrap to be applied to a Harley-Davidson 2009 FXCW Rocker Motorcycle. This project started with a very loose sketch of the demon skull that I scribbled up while eating breakfast. Nothing real solid here, just basically getting the shape and feel worked out.
I then imported the sketch into Adobe Illustrator and began to work up the tight line art. Again at this stage, the shape of the objects was all I cared about. The detail really wasn't too important at this point. Most of that will be worked out at the painting stage.
I then imported the demon line art as a layer to work above and as paths for use in masking and selections. I first start out making flat color layers of each of the objects in the image. Then start painting in the textures and lighting on layer masks above on my Cintiq. I made sure to do each tentacle on their own layer so I could duplicate them to fill the background. Below is the final illustration that was printed on vinyl by T-n-T Graphics and wrapped to the rear fender.
The tentacles were then rearranged and repurposed to create the art for the gas tank and the front fender.
