Poster art work inspired by and for a written theater production named IYA The Esselen Remember written by Luis 'xago' Juarez.
IYA The Esselen Remember tells the story of the Esselen by incorporating the tribe’s creation myth, historical accounts depicting the Spanish Mission period, the Mexican-Californio era, and the U.S. occupation and settlement. It comes at a critical time, given the recent, unprecedented canonization of Junipero Serra on U.S. soil and its deep connotations within the Native American community.
