Alan Kitching Tribute

Alan Kitching, Pioneer of Graphic Design: A Tribute

For this brief I was to create a modular typeface and a poster based from inspiration from an existing typographer, in this case the famous letterpress partitioner Alan Kitching. To create my typeface i made use of potato stamping 5 shapes, taking them onto a computer and then cleaning and editing them into a modular typeface. The use of potato stamping gave me a DIY home letterpress style, as I wanted to ensure I made my type and poster familiar to Kitching.

The shapes were made by cutting a potato in half, and then putting the shape into the potato. I then linked the potato with blank ink and began to stamp onto paper. These stamps were then scanned onto my mac where they best  were selected, edited and cleaned up.
Using the potatos that were stamped, i began creating a number of different letter forms for the whole alpahbet. After a number of experiementations the final forms were chosen and the typeface created.
