CONCEPTS - These are some of the concept I did to clarify the style of the film. By the end of this research we decided to animate the four human characters in rotoscope, mainly to underline the difference between the real world and the one in Simon's mind.
CHARACTER - For our main character (we call him Kiwi) we wanted simple shapes and a monster like appeareance. For a while we took ispiration from the totem themes but in the end we kept only the mask around the character's eyes that accentuates his expressions and gives him a little more personality.
ROUGH ANIMATION - Kiwi is in Flash traditional animation. These are the roughs of some of the scenes I animated.
ROTOSCOPE - The four humans are in rotoscope. We used live action actors, manipulated the footage and added bubbles where needed.
