Exploring User Perceptions
Natural Health Products In Canada

The following project was part of of a special topic course about "Public Policy Innovation" at OCAD University. Our team worked closely with Health Canada in order to uncover what factors consumers consider in making informed choices.

This report was generated at the intersection of Public Policy Innovation in the 21st Century and Health Canada’s need to help consumers make well-informed decisions about Health Product choices. The aim of the course is to generate a discussion around design’s value in policy making and public service. Recent movements in design practice has emerged in various parts of the world to solve complex problems in the public sphere. The focus of the research was to investigate the current condition of Natural Health Products and non-prescription in the larger Canadian context and broaden our understanding of its specific use within the City of Toronto region based on the framework of Canadian drug regulations, prescriptive drug interactions, over the counter counselling, customer education and information seeking. The scope of this projects aims to understand how users seek information regarding Natural Health Products (NHP), to measure and address the risks associated with their use and further, to motivate people to provide feedback to Health Canada.
