In these pieces I explored the concept of singularity. Dogs, for example, recognise one another by their voices and scent rather than names. They explore each other more rawly. In modern society we have become detached from one another and from our environment. Luce Irigaray claims that when we disconnect ourselves from nature and from the community, we let dualism enter our lives. As humans we have clear consciences when we exploit nature this way. Women are seen as what Simone De Beauvoir calls the Second Sex. I chose to draw a woman with an animal mask because Irigaray too claims that women are more attune to the environment and the concept of community is feminine; as an opposing image to the patriarchal system.
