My Penang, My Pride

This is my free time project and a tribute to my lovely hometown, Penang - Malaysia.
Penang Island is located off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It was named the Prince of Wales Island when it was occupied by the British East India Company on 12 August 1786, in honour of the Prince of Wales, later King George IV. The capital, George Town, was named after the reigning King George III.
If you want to see life as it was in Penang, or for that matter Malaysia, say about forty or fifty years ago, then this is the place to head for. Literally translated to “The Back of the Island” from the Malay name (the Chinese call it “the island behind the hills”), Balik Pulau stretches from the north-western tip of the island immediately past the touristy area of Teluk Bahang to the south-western corner of Teluk Kumbar, covering practically half the island, and is made up of some 15 hamlets.
Situated along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, the stretch is peppered with various places of worship and devotees wandering out and about. Walk along the street and you'll catch the likes of Kuan Yin Temple, Masjid Kapitan Keling, Sri Mahamariamman Temple, St. George's Church, Cathedral of Assumption and Khoo Kongsi at each turn.
If you are looking for a foodie holidays, Penang is an ideal destination for you and this post offers the best keep secrets of Penang food guide. Penang or nicknamed as the food haven is a small isle floating on Straits of Malacca north of Peninsular Malaysia. Steep in history, rich of multicultural heritage, and similarly goes to the delicacy! Full of good food, Penang has them all. From appetizers, mains, desserts to fruits, Penang has all sorts of delectable food that you wouldn't want to miss out!
Penang hawker food can be broken down roughly into several varieties, with each being attributable to Penang's multi-cultural character: Nyonya, Chinese, vegetarian, Indian, Malay, Hakka-styled Western, seafood and desserts. Hybrids are also known to exist, and some famous examples are Malay style chicken rice and char koay teow, and Chinese satay and nasi lemak. Prices are cheap and reasonable.
