Civic Centre Nottingham - Library & Skills Centre

A second year architectural project to build a civic centre in Nottingham to tackle one or more of the major issues facing the city. 
 Research was carried out to find what the current biggest problems were, most issues could be linked back to the high level of unemployment. Following the conclusion of the research it was decided the major thing that the people of Nottingham were missing was the skills to gain employment. A library would be built with a skills and job centre with in.
 The building would be located in the centre of Nottingham and designed upon the concept of 'alignment'.

Developing the concept of alignment led to the particular idea of rowing. The force of the oars had to align in order for the boat to go in a straight line:
