Digital design concept from MA final project in Central Saint Martin

The background story is based on my personal experience; I am currently live in London and have the long-distance relationship with my family. The development of technology allows us to communicate with people who live thousands of miles away, instead of the long-time journey. This is the most convenient for us with long-distance communication. However, there is another situation happening with the young generation. We are often so absorbed in our computers or phone that we find it more convenient to instant-message one another, even though we’re in the same room. The instant message becomes too fast, convenient and superficial that we do not attach importance to our conversation and have less expectation. The prospective stands on the point of view with both advantages and disadvantages, questioning our relationship with technology.
The design provides the users to choose the delivery time of sending your message on your smartphone and creating the slow interaction between each other. It combined with the physical activity in our real life, make two people collaborate to put effort into sending the message. The aim is trying to bring the emotion of the expectation and curiosity back to the digital instant message, it can be one kind of joy and poetic in our daily life with our intimacy partner, on the other hand, it questioning the value behind all the conversation on instant message and exploring the possibilities of less instantaneity and more calm in communication, creating a new rhythm of social interaction.
