Book: Brassai in America 1957
Artist: Gyula Halasz (Brassai)
Published by: Flammarion

Description: This book displays 150 of his previously unpublished street photographs from the 1950’s. At the age of 60 Brassai took a trip to the united states and captured candid photos of children playing, fashionable woman and also the architecture of America.

My thoughts: I chose this book because Brassai’s work intrigued me and grabbed my attention. He knew how to get a shot in the moment without manipulating things. His photos have lots of life and motion in them, he was able to capture the busy world around him.
“I don't invent anything. I imagine everything... most of the time, I have drawn my images from the daily life around me. I think that it is by capturing reality in the humblest, most sincere, most everyday way I can, that I can penetrate to the extraordinary.”
"A poor photographer meets chance one out of a hundred times and a good photographer meets chance all the time."
