ROME + KLEIN
by: William Klein

William Klein is an American painter, filmmaker and photographer from New York City.
He is widely known for his photo essays on cities he's lived in, including New York, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow and of course Rome

This book was compiled in the late 1950's during a time when Klein was new to the city. He was there for a film shoot that was delayed by a few months, and so instead of returning to Paris, where he lived previously, he decided to document his surroundings and to familiarize himself with the city through street photography.
I love the style of the photographs in this book - very informal, the subjects of the photos are just every day people going about their lives. I attempted to pay homage to this great photographer by recreating some images in the same style at the cafe where I work.
After browsing the images in this book and taking in more of Klein's work, I am inspired to get out of my comfort zone more to do street photography more often.
