3D Printing + Traditional Porcelain Making
Sami Rinne Design
A succesful design experiment by mixing 3D modelling /printing and traditional slip casting ceramic and porcelain techniques. Kukka is a vase/candle votive designed by Ritch Mendoza and Sami Rinne for the design collection of 2015. It is made in Helsinki, Finland and it was made in a experimental process by mixing 3D modelling and traditional porcelain production techniques.
Kukka means flower in the Finnish language, it is a highly symmetric product designed parametrically. The material is porcelain, it has been slip casted and fired at 1230 degrees Celcius.
Kukka became a great success. We managed to create a new and more accurate technique for slip casting that not only reduces the time for casting but also increases the fidelity and resolution of the product delivered.
