La Cimbali and Faema are the prestigious brands of the largest and most famous professional coffee machines manufacturing Group in the world: in 2009 Valerio Cometti accepted the challenge that once had been faced by Castiglioni, Sottsass, Bonetto and Giugiaro Design.
His Q10 and Barcode are the rewarding result of an ambitious project: the brief was to design a compact coffee machine, capable of producing the same quality of coffee offered by traditional machines and characterised by extremely technological contents, capable, in fact of pouring espresso,cappuccino, decaf, hot chocolate and much more.
By designing also the graphic of the interface of the touch-screen version, Cometti wanted to make sure the whole project was developed consistently. While designing Q10 and Barcode, Valerio Cometti had clean lines and smooth surfaces in his mind, playing with volumes and honing proportions finely, rather than chasing decorative and ornamental trickeries. Four main surfaces generate the overall shape and create a fine dialogue between different parts in the machine: hoppers, dashboard, nozzle and working area. As an Italian designer, to develop a product that will represent the best of Italian technology and culture all over the world, has been a particularly stimulating and rewarding challenge.
